Wine & Gout - What to drink?

by albert.lara » Tue Nov 08, 2016 2:08 pm

Why me, I keep asking my self.

Well as many know by now GOUT does not discriminate.

So what do I drink now.

Does anyone have any idea of what kind of wine I am able to drink with this Rich Man Decease?

Would like to address you by your first name--would you mind responding and telling me whether it's Albert or Lara? Gender-wise, quite a difference!

Also with gout--it effects far more men than women but I'm 'a women' and an unfortunate inheritor of what is a family disease. I don't take anything for it, and I continue to drink wine almost every day. I'm lucky to be able to keep flare-ups under control with just limiting the amount of red meat I eat and avoiding beer 100%. I don't believe there's any difference among wines; they're all as lethal, if wine is one of the things that bothers you. (Seems most sufferers find certain foods to be triggers, and for each of us it's not all the same thing. For me: beer.) Good luck with what ails you! (Or should I have said 'ales'. :) )
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

I have gout and have learned to accept that the only thing that works is to take allopurinol.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.

Jay is correct, once you have the acute flare-up under control, Allopurinol is a godsend. It comes in 100 to 300 mg doses, you may have to find the right one for you. I've been taking the 300mg for years without a single flareup. And it's very inexpensive, even if you don't have health insurance. For instance, it's on the list of $4/mo Wal-Mart prescriptions. So my answer to your question is, drink whatever you like.
