Broc Cellars Tasting: We Got the Funk!

by Brian K Miller » Mon Nov 07, 2016 7:18 pm

Quick notes from a visit to Broc Cellars on Saturday!

My highlights were:

2015 Valdigue (Green Valley, Solano County). Raspberry fruit. Some structure and weight to the wine. Pleasant (to my palate) funkiness. This just shouts
"Thanksgiving"!

2015 Nero D'Avola. Purple. This wine is all about the purple, and I don't even have synesthesia. Black cherry and boysenberry fruit. Some "Broc Funk" Some pretty serious TANNINS, which along with the acidity and depth of PURPLE fruit suggest aging potential?

2012 Mouvedre. I tasted this delightfully earthy and funky red, and wow. This could be a Jenny and Francois import! Delicious, but potentially controversial. Not a Tom Hill wine, I can venture!
