INFO: Forman 1997 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 3L & 1.5L

by albert.lara » Mon Nov 07, 2016 3:44 pm

Hi, I just inherited (4) 3L bottles of Forman 1997 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

I inherited 8 X 2000-2003 1.5L Forman Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Does anyone know what the value in today's market will be?

Wine Market journal has auction results for '97 in 750s ($64) and mags ($190). You could probably extrapolate that a 3L would go for $325-400 (mags typically get most premium)
2003 mags have $170.

Those are all in prices including buyers premium (usually 20-22%).

For smaller consignors most houses charge a sellers premium as well.

Thank you,

I have heard that this is a good tasting wine.

I am going to try the 1.5L

Have you had this wine before?

I've not had the '97 or '03 to memory. I have a bottle of the '98.
I'm a big fan of Ric Forman's Sterling wines from 70s, a bit less of his own brand,
But the '97 has good notes on Cellartracker, including from someone who I've offlined with who has pretty good palate.
Usually I say just drink it, but 3Ls are a bit different.
