A friend of mine has a bottle of Far Niente 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon. Any advice re when it should be opened

Paul, I can't agree with you more!!!!!! She also has a bottle of Chateau Potelle VGS Zin that I think needs to be opened, but maybe not as badly as the '97 Far Niente!

Depends on how old the Zin is - if it's getting on for 10 or 12 years, it probably wants opening in the best way!
The Far Niente can wait, but there's no real advantage in waiting, unless you like to tantalize yourself.
