Still a Chenin Blanc fan!

by Bob Parsons Alberta » Mon Oct 31, 2016 11:47 pm

Local winebar is always keen to open a S African Chenin Blanc so I was keen to try the 21 Gables Chenin Blanc from Spier.
On sale at Devines for $29 Cdn. Obviously seen some oak so will put mine away for a while. Lemon rind color with just a tinge of gold. Apricots and vanilla on the nose, no mineral tones!
Initial entry thought was sweetish, fair acidity long finish of oranges and peach. Not my usual style but have always been a Chenin fan, especially Spier of Stellenbosch. Mullineux is another big fave of mine.

Bob, I bought an experimental South African chenin from Morgenhof at Waitrose. I fear that, from CT notes, it may turn out like yours, oaky and sweetish. I'm not sure with what to serve it. A creamy fish or poultry dish, perhaps, but then I would be much more likely to stretch out for one of my Foreau or Huet Vouvray demi-secs.
