Parker review request

by Jim Grow » Sat Oct 15, 2016 12:23 pm

I just bought some 2013 Turnbull Estate Cabernet Sauvignon on line as a birth year Christmas present for my nephew named Turnbull, and his young son. This wine got a big "95" point score from RMP but I have not read it and do not subscribe. If allowable, could someone PM me or e-mail me the text of that review. Thanks.

Found the Wine Enthusiast review on www.winesearcher.com but didn't come up with the WA review.

Wine Enthusiast: 93 Points
"A larger offering from the producer from a selection of sites, this shows a prowess of blending in its grippy, classic elements of black pepper and currant, a focused display of savory edges around elusive fruit that makes for a compelling experience. Drink now through 2023."

This is from the K&L Wine Merchants Website

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"Turnbull's 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville, their least expensive wine in the portfolio is the most forward and precocious of the cuvées and shows what great winemaking and vineyard sources the Turnbulls are dealing with. The color is opaque purple, the wine shows slightly less tannins than its counterparts, with gorgeously intense blueberry and blackberry fruit, cedar wood, forest floor and spice box. It's full-bodied, opulent, rich and, while still young with a good 10 years of upside, this wine will still be drinking great 20 years from now. (RP) " (12/2015)

I haven't subscribed to WA in 15 years, but usually with a high score it's easy to find just by checking retailers that carry it.
If you search Turnbull Estate CS there are dozens of stores carrying this that list either the WE score or Suckling's 93
JS 93 James Suckling - "Love the aromas of crush blackberries, black currants and black tobacco. Full body, integrated and rich tannins, and a flavorful finish. Rich yet tensioned. Better in 2018 but so delicious now."

There's a separate listing for the Turnbull Oakville that gets 95. If ratings matter let's hope this is one you have.

By the way, I believe the wine I ordered is the "Estate" not the Oakville so I hope the drinking window is similar.

According to their website they own four non continuous vineyards throughout the Napa Valley AVA, three of them are in the Napa Valley sub AVA of Oakville. So any Estate made wine (assuming grown and made by) could be labeled just Napa Valley AVA or Oakville AVA What is he actual AVA designation on the label?

Victor, I am assuming that Estate and Oakville are from different parcels which is what their various labels indicate.

Their "single vineyard wines" or "single block wines" produced from vines they grow and own are not "Estate wines"?
If their "Estate wine" has "Oakville" attached to it I would assume all the grapes came from Oakville, if grapes from all four vineyards were used you wouldn't see "Oakville" attached. (Turnbull, Fortuna, and Leopoldina vineyards are in the sub AVA of Oakville, Amogenus vineyard is not).

From CT pix, should be pretty clear.

One label says:
Cabernet Sauvignon
Estate Grown
Napa Valley
2013

Other says:
Cabernet Sauvignon
Estate Grown
Oakville, Napa Valley
2013
there is also an angled gold 'sash" with Oakville on bottom right of label
