Emirates Wines

by Peter May » Fri Oct 07, 2016 11:30 am

Last year I flew Emirates to New Zealand. In their inflight magazine was a graphic on their wine cellar. I won't reproduce it, but these are some of the figures:-

Of all wines consumed on board*
7% in first class
41.5% in business
51.5% in economy

*Champagne is most popular choice in first & business.

57% of all wines consumed on board are from Bordeaux

Annually they spend
$65.4M on current wines and spirits
$22.65M on first & business class Champagne

1.2M bottles are maturing in their wine cellar in Burgundy

I have flown Emirates business class once, and it was a great experience. 2005 Chateau Talbot was the available Bordeaux. They also had a 2005 Clos Vougeot but I forget the producer. I tried it, but it was totally shit down, so I went back to the Bordeaux which was shockingly delicious for a10 year old wine (at the time).

Just love Emirates! Had a Charlopin Clos Vougeot 2005 last time! Brilliant!

Greetings from Sweden / Fredrik L
