Quaffable Cheap Mystery Bordeaux!

by Brian K Miller » Wed Oct 05, 2016 10:33 am

I can find nothing about this wine on the innertubes. but apparently Chateau La Grange makes or made a Bordeaux AOC wine as well as their more well-known St. Julien. And, the 2010 was quite nice last night. Cherry fruit, a framework of oak, cassis, and that "Bordeauxishness" earthy, tobacco-y flavor that seems somewhat restricted to Bordeaux (not always I know, but...) For less than $20, this was quite pleasant!

Just double checking before I posted this, I cannot find anything on a mere Bordeaux AOC wine from La Grange. Not a whisper. Weird!

Brian, I'm puzzled about this too. The famous St.Julien is Lagrange (one word) and a second wine, Les Fiefs de Lagrange, I think, and a white Arum de Lagrange or something like that. I guess you know about these already.

There are quite a few châteaux with La Grange (two words) in their name but invariably it seems to be La Grange de..... something or somewhere (not surprising because "grange" means "barn" of which there are very many). There is also a Château Lagrange (one word) - Graves.

Can you post an image of your label so as to help identification?

Quite a few vintages on CT

99.9% sure no linkage to either Ch. Lagrange (St Julien) or Ch. Lagrange (Pomerol), both of which use Lagrange as one word.

Looks like it might be this place -- does your bottle have the Escoussans address? If so, then if I'm reading this right, it might not be prroduced any more....

Patchen: I think you found it.

Sad to read that the wine is no more.
