First a little back history. I bought 4 bottles of 2002 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Seven Springs way back in 2003 at McArthurs in D.C. for a mere 25$/bottle with a great point score from PR (no, not RP). The first two bottles were terribly acidic. The third bottle I sold at cost to Tom Noland of MoCool fame. The last bottle I opened tonight (with a back up). One should not need to wait 14 years to enjoy a Oregon Pinot Noir but I guess you do in this case. The nose and palate were all about sour cherry and lots of sage with some leather coming in at the very end of the evening. I have a couple of tablespoons of wine left that I sniff now that I thought I would hate. Maybe a little plum mixed into that sage now! Maybe eucalyptus too! The nose far exceeded the palate at the end but this was still a revelation to me as I was prepared to toss this wine and open a Eagle's Trace 2011. One never knows!
