by katelyn.fitch » Thu Sep 29, 2016 10:21 am

Hi, I am building a website for a class all on wine tasting in my area and would appreciate some feedback on it:

Hi

This isn't a website. It's just one page.

Links don't work.

Suggest you use a spell-checker, also Canadian should start with a capital.

Bad image to show a person slugging wine from a bottle.

Do you have copyright clearance to use this images?

Your tag at the bottom says This website is for academic purposes only

What academic purposes?

Is this a commercial venture?

There is already a mature and well known site where wine tasting events can be advertisid for free -- see http://www.localwineevents.com/

Peter,

I think it is worth noting that you are the only person I have ever seen reference that wine event website.

Yes, the local wine events link might be less than useful in Alberta.

Don't let Peter's tough critical points discourage you, Katelyn. Visualize his words in his crisp British accent and it may soften them.

One of our forumites, Bob Parsons, is in the wine business in Calgary. If he happens along, perhaps he can offer you some local advice.

Not enough content yet to get into a real critique.

Yup, Bob here in Edmonton. Do not have a clue what this lady is trying to do with her one page site.
The other site linked is good. The Tomato, a local monthly food magazine, also lists all the big wine happenings.

Currently it has 172 events listed in Alberta. Localwineevents.com has been online since 2000, it's very useful, especially for finding wine tastings when travelling.

No reason why not to create a competing site, especially one focused on one particular area, but knowing one is competing with an establised site is information I thought would be useful to the OP. Why re-invent the wheel?

But I am not at all clear on the reason for the OPs site - post says
I am building a website for a class all on wine tasting in my area
but is OP a student on a course on how to build websites, or is the class on wine tasting?

Either way OP asked for feedback, which is what I - and no one else - have done.

The local wine events site wants $59 for posting an event. Many wine stores in my area advertise their tastings inhouse, two I know for sure always sell out.

Hi Katelyn!

Awesome start. I agree with Sir Peter to maybe reconsider your chosen images for these. It may be an unfinished site that's why the links don't work, but it's a good start :)

and while I'm here, I just recently made 2 websites and would appreciate your comments as well.

www.loveasyliving.com and www.homenkitchensupplies.com

I have had these website reviewed but I'd like to gather your thoughts as well. I'd appreciate the help
