Anti-hail cannons coming to Burgundy

by Jenise » Wed Sep 28, 2016 4:58 pm

My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

I wonder how that is permitted by the AOC regulations.

Hard for the growers, some tough luck.
But anti-hail cannons are likely as effective as magnets or copper for arthritis. As someone noted in a discussion a couple years ago, if the vibrations of bells or cannons would stop hail, why wouldn't thunder?

I would have thought that the DRC and some of the other richer Burgundy estates would simply put tarps over their vines when there's danger of hail. It would be expensive, but it would more than pay for itself the first time crop loss due to hail was avoided.

I;ve seen these cannons in other places, including Bordeaux.

They don't have to stop the hail, just nudge it to the next persons vineyard :)

If it were in the USA, I can hear the growers saying "Oh, hail! not again!"

IIRC, tarps are not allowed by the AOC.
