What are you drinking for the debate?

by Jenise » Mon Sep 26, 2016 6:18 pm

We're not sure yet. I was glancing around the cellar just now in hopes of finding something with a clever, cynical name that would somehow represent the impending doom I feel about this whole election. I know that one of these cool new California wineries like Forlorn Hope or Dirty and Rowdy probably has just the ticket, but unfortunately I don't own any of them!

What to do, what to do.

Drink an Arnold Palmer and cast your troubles to the wind. If the Frump gets elected we can all move to New Zealand.

I was considering a Corpse Reviver.

But hey, look what I found in the cellar. Bought it to give to a friend and it never got to its intended destination. Pretty perfect!

Probably belladonna. I think it's going to be nasty.

Maybe an 2005 Sauternes. It always leaves me in a good mood!

Someone on Facebook said they were going to have wine too, but they weren't going to drink it--they were just going to hit themselves on the head with it over and over until they passed out. :)

I made a largish Manhattan with Old Forester bourbon. Made it last all through the debate. :)

I had strawberry agua fresca and turned my headphones up high enough to drown out the television in the Mexican restaurant so I could enjoy my burrito in peace.

Since Donald refused to prep (according to the media) I wonder how canned his random nonsense was. I think you just got Il Douche in all his fresh glory!

Oh he obviously prepped, he just pretended otherwise. And that's great, because he handed Hilary one of her best lines. Something to the effect of: "Yes, I did prepare. I spent the last two weeks not just preparing for this debate, [short pause for effect] I was also preparing to be President."

That is what made it entertaining, and kept me watching longer than anticipated.

Although when you step back and take stock of the situation, it is not as entertaining anymore!!

Yeah, I know, I'm supposed to be a political scientist, but I drank neat Highland Park 18 and listened to music on headphones while reading a political history of the New Deal and following the debate on tehgraun's live blog. Andrea watched in the other room. I think I made the right choice. I pace and yell during ordinary debates. During this one I would probably have broken something.
cheers, Patchen

I'd agree with that but I find just a few drops of water tend to open up the nose on some of the older single malts.

Don't envy you guys your choice! Why can't the Republicans ever seem to field a moderate candidate without saddling them with a moron from Alaska, or indulging in any other myriad ways of shooting yourself in the foot? I cannot recall any other US election where there just doesn't seem to be any sane choice to make......

I'm proud to say I'm a Hillary supporter and I watched the debate at the local Democratic campaign headquarters with a mostly African-American crowd. Earlier in the evening I was sipping a Lioco Chardonnay and that is close enough to "loco" to describe Donald Trump--especially when he said that his "temperament" is probably his best quality by far. Heaven help us if he is elected if his other qualities are even worse than his temperament!
Yesterday I was back at Democratic hdqrs at noon for a meet and greet with Sean Astin, the star of "Rudy" and a hobbit in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. North Carolina is an important swing state in this election and I would love to see it go for Hillary (it went for Obama in 2008 but for Romney in 2012.)
