WTN: Willi Schaefer Spatlese - 15 years on

2001 Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (9/6/2016)
Served blind to my tasting group.

The 2001s have never been Schaefer's best group of wines, but this stood it's ground with Mosel-typical apple and citrus fruit, excellent underlying minerality and perfect balance. The only place it really fell down was on the finish, which did not have that kick on intensity that I have always found in the best 2001s. Nevertheless a lovely bottle, and one that would be perfect for the dinner table.

Well Schaefer Spatlese is $40-$50 in the US, so that's not a bad price.
