Yup, DeVines had their Xmas party and I was invited as I co-host some of the instore wine tastings. Sounds a bit like a hanger-oner eh! Wines poured were.......
Piper-Heidsieck Cuvee Rare.
`05 Terras Gauda O Rosal.
`04 Dom. Ostertag Riesling Heissenberg.
`95 Faiveley Nuits St. Georges Clos de la Marchale.
`98 Penfolds St. Henri
`98 Ch. La Grave a Pomerol.
`04 Finca Sandoval.
`89 Ch. Suduiraut.
I have posted recently on the Albarinho O Rosal. The bubbly was delicious, n/v I think. The Ostertag was served too warm but better when chilled naturally. V gd acidity, apricot on finish, nectarine. Tad too dry for me however.
I have hardly ever warmed up to Faiveley. 1st bottle corked, a wine to reflect on was agreed comment!! Toffee and tar, not much to say. I thought the claret was exceptional, a new name to me. The Penfolds was way too young for my palate and I simply moved on to the Finca. WOTN in my books, beautiful colour and a big bruiser. Needs some time, 100% Syrah.
For dessert, we opened the `89 Suduiraut. I was expecting some botrytis but turned out quite dry. What is going on here? Felt way too young, any comments forumites on this one?
