Wine from the untouristy county (Solano) where I live! Not Suisun Valley, which has more visibility, but the cooler valley just west, Green Valley. (If you are driving along I-80, Green Valley is the site of the massive freeway interchange project. Gotta keep enabling the drive-until-you-qualify concept!)
Anyway: GV Cellars (Green Valley Cellars) is a quaint little winery tucked down a dead end road in the still rural part of Green Valley. They produce good wines-especially for their price points. Varietally correct, plenty of fruit, but not goopy, oaky, or jammy in any way. The various cabernets always offer pretty classic cassis fruit and balanced character.
And....they age a bit!
With tri tip, we had the 2005 Solano County Cabernet Sauvignon. Classic cassis fruit is still there. Good acid. Lovely nose as well. A savory core-not only about the fruit. This is still pretty primary, but darn it complemented the meat so well!
Other, less local wines:
Glaetzner Gruner Velitlinger. Not very familiar with this Austrian grape, by I enjoyed the bracing minerality and stone fruit.
Two Shepherds Trousseau Gris. A really fun "wine geek" kind of wine! Skin contact, so basically an "orange wine". Salty character, citrus, and quite quite funky. Of course, there are strong tea notes as well. William makes an interesting take on TG....different than the WindGap and Arnot Roberts versions for sure.
