WTN: Live tasting note from Poland ('07 Fontalloro)

by David M. Bueker » Mon Aug 22, 2016 1:36 pm

On another of my quick turnaround trips to Poland. Eating in the lovely restaurant at my hotel, the Hotel Monopol. They have a wine list that has many items at close to US retail.

The Fontalloro was really tight when first opened, so I had them decant it, which resulted in an instant improvement. It's still pretty firm, but it has a lovely red fruit and licorice profile. The sauce with my main course is too sweet for the wine, but if I take a bite of the beef that is not covered in sauce the combination is lovely. The food mellows the firmness of the wine, and the wine cuts through the fat of the braised beef.
