The #3 here indicates that it is the third vintage of the Contadino. The vintage is 2005. The wine is bottled as Sicilia rosso IGT and is made from a mix of grapes, both white and red. Frank Cornelissen might be the most extreme wine-maker I know of today. The grapes are grown on the Etna, using absolutely no treatment, chemical, organic nor biodynamic. The wines are spontaneous fermented and aged in neutral plastic or amphora. It is non-filtered and non-sulphured.
Red transparent colour. Lightly bricking. Slight fizz. Some bits floating around. Fine nose. Hints of fresh red berries. Citrus. With some air shows quite a lot of wet stone, some mineral. Medium bodied in the mouth. Acidic, more white wine like balance in the mouth. Fresh fruit. Red fruited, stoney approach. Fine fruit with some depth. Pure and refreshing. Not much oxydation. Improving in the glass and shows a slight tannin-bite after a few hours. Fine and different wine which I like very much. Good food-wine.
