For those who knew John Trombley, his wife, Barbara, passed away today. Many are offering condolences via Facebook. I do not know if his email address is still available here. I know he would appreciate keeping him in your thoughts and prayers.

Oh, how sad for John. I saw the initial note this morning on the Facebook site but did not understand who 'Barbara' was. Had she been ill for awhile?

Jenise, Barbara had had some other health problems but her passing was very shocking and sudden. She suffered a heart attack Saturday morning while at one of the cabins for the MO'COOL event near Ann Arbor and was comatose for awhile in an area hospital before passing away this morning. I can scarcely believe she is gone. On Friday night we were gathered at Vinology wine bar and restaurant in Ann Arbor and Barbara invited me to sit at their table. She looked really good Friday night. I heard about their river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam and the extra days they spent in Amsterdam to see the great masters in the Van Gogh Museum and Reichsmuseum. I am glad she was among friends and with John at her side on Friday. Her college roommate was also at the weekend event.

I can't identify which John Trombley Facebook account belongs to the John we know, so I hope he reads this.

My condolences to him. I remember well a sumptuous Mosel wine event which I attended, partly at his instigation, at the Moselschild hotel/restaurant at Ürzig in about 2000. There was a fascination comparison between two bottles of JJ Prüm WS Auslese '59; the first from the Moselschild's own cellar was amazingly fresh like a 15-20 year old wine of enormous complexity and the second, with stickers from Hong Kong, San Francisco, etc. looked and tasted like an old wine but still interesting.

I recollect his comment about a Howard Park Riesling - "like a good effort from Michigan". The German contingent were even more dismissive; unfairly I thought.

My condolences to John. Barbara was a lovely lady. Mary Jo and I sat with them at last year's MOCOOL and ehjoyed their company very much. Rest in peace.

JC, thanks for that description. But how tragic for John; I remember him talking about her here--literally glowing--having met her, he was so instantly and deeply in love.
