Some recent whites:
2014 Maison Nicolas Perrin France Viognier
Not a viognier fan but though this wine is unmstakably viognier (and floral), it's buoyed by such good acidity and minerality that it plays in my wheelhouse anyway. Very nice.
2014 Cooper Mountain Vineyards Pinot Gris Cooper Hill Willamette Valley
Second of three bottles purchased a year ago, and better with a year of bottle age showing more classic PG notes. Pearlescent color with glints of pink and gray, intense pear fruit with just a hint of citrus. Flavors linger nicely on the palate. A perfect summer wine.
NV Knot Wines Knot Wines Halyard Brut Sparkling Central Coast (California) White Blend
Very rich flavors bordering on caramel; starting to show it's age but still delightful.
2013 Astrolabe Wines Chenin Blanc Wrekin Vineyard Marlborough
Straw color. Serious, concentrated flavors of quince, white nectarine and lychee nut obscured by extreme dryness unusual for CB. Much better on second day, in fact impressive, but this wine needs time. Drink next: 2018.
2014 Springfield Estate Sauvignon Blanc 'Life from Stone' Robertson, South Africa
Sports that limestone nose I have adored about this wine in past vintages, but fruit seemed a bit shy on first day so we corked thinking it would fill out on Day 2. Only to find no fruit at all. Ditto day 3--just gone. Major disappointment, and eighteen bucks down the drain.
2014 Maison Chanzy Rully En Rosey Chardonnay, Macon
Based on Last Bottle's pitch, expected this to be a steelier, more mineral-driven style Rully, and indeed it is. Very toned, with asian pear, lemon and a crisp finish.
