WTN: Novy Syrah Page-Nord '06...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Aug 08, 2016 7:12 pm

Tried this last night at dinner:
1. Novy Syrah Page-Nord Vnyd/NapaVlly (14.3%) 2006: Very dark color w/ no bricking; very strong smokey/toasty/Siduri oak intense blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah rather licorice/pungent slight Rhonish/roasted rather perfumed nose; soft intense licorice/boysenberry/blackberry/Syrah strong smokey/toasty/Siduri oak slight herbal almost SantaLuciaHighlands Syrah some complex flavor w/ light gentle/ripe tannins; very long strong pungent/smokey/toasty/Siduri oak very strong blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah some complex finish w/ light ripe tannins; probably near its peak or a bit beyond.

1. I don't think the Novy Syrahs get the respect they deserve among Rhoneheads. They seem to really show their best at 8-10 yrs out. This one is doing mighty fine.
The Page-Nord is typically my least favorite of the Novy Syrahs. They seem a bit on the simple/one-dimensional side compared to the others. But I was surprised how well this had developed.
