TN: 2014 Mulderbosch Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé.

by Bob Parsons Alberta » Sun Aug 07, 2016 9:12 am

Mulderbosch from Stellenbosch is well-known for their Chenin Blanc as well as the Sauvignion B. This Rosé has long been a fave around these parts so happy to try the newly arrived vintage.

$22 Cdn, SC, L14-307, 12.5% alc. Prefer to serve not too chilled.

Darkish salmon pink color with some reddish tones. Strawberry, apple nose with some minerality too.
Initial entry thought is off-dry, prickle on tip of tongue. Nice acidity, red berries, cherry. "Light bodied style of a summer red" from across the patio but I thought more medium in style. Tartish finish with pepper tones on day 2. Went well with pork tenderloin medaillons, back to buy more.

I usually find the Mulderbosch a little lacking in acidity for my rose tastes. Cabernet Sauv isn't my fave rose grape. Sounds like is a bit zippier than past vintages.
I'm surprised 2014 is newly arrived vintage, with southern hemisphere I'd expect 2016s to be arriving in a few months

Dale, I've had them anywhere from offputtingly off-dry for my tastes to delightfully dry and rhone-ish funky (and that would be the last vintage I bought, probably--come to think of it--the '14 Bob's drinking.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
