WTN: Ryme Vermentino "Hers" '15...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Aug 03, 2016 11:44 am

Tried this last night:
1. Ryme Vermentino "Hers" LasBrisasVnyd/Carneros/SonomaCnty (11.9%) 2015: Light yellow color; very fragrant/perfumed Vermentino/floral/apple/pear/spicy lovely nose; rather tart/tangy/nervy rather apple/pear/Vermentino light stony/mineral/chalky/metallic flavor; very long tart/tangy/nervy/bright apple/pear/Vermentino spicy/apple pie finish; a bright/bracing/floral expression of Vermentino more along the lines of those from Liquria; a very pretty/great-drinking white. $24.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Megan & Ryan Glaab make two Vermentinos, "Hers" and "His". "Hers" is made conventionally, direct to press. "His" is made w/ some skin-contact. I tend to prefer the "Hers".
The LasBrisas vnyd is owned by Frank Mahoney and is probably one of the coldest Vermentino vnyds in the World.

Tom; is there data to suggest that Las Brisas is one of the coldest Vermentino vineyards?
I don't know just how I'm supposed to play this scene, but I ain't afraid to learn...

Nope, Steve...I'm just guessing because it in the Carneros, far South Carneros. Can't think of any Vermentino (Pigato/Favorita)
plantings in Italy that may be colder, except Liguira. Don't think that your ElDorado vnyd is colder than Carneros??

No, not up there, except maybe in winter/early spring. I just wonder if Carneros isn't thought of as being much cooler than it really is.

Well, Steve...that could very well be...don't know. I don't have any hard data. But...hey...I'm a LosAlamos guy.
Don't need any stinkin' data to draw grandoise/sweeping general conclusions!!
