Let`s talk Telmo Rodriguez!

Quite a few references doing a search here on this forum. I was under the impression that his wines were up there price wise so imagine my surprise when I found an entry level Rioja for just over $22 Cdn. I am to understand that the Basa white is one to look out for.

TN: 2013 Telmo Rodriguez Rioja LZ.

Guess a medium ruby color, some depth in the centre. Blackberry on the nose, some mineral tones.."cherry" from across the table. "Is this 100% Tempranillo"..yup sure is.
Initial entry thought is dry-ish, still some tannins and could use another year to balance out. Cherry and raspberry, good mid-palate, lengthy finish. Lightish oak treatment here, think the fruit profile will improve with some age. Gonna go back for more! Went well with meatballs in a creamy mushroom sauce.

While I think TR is based in Rioja, most of my experiences have been with his cheaper whites from elsewhere.
My impression was his Rioja reds were on the bulky/modern side, but this doesn't sound like that.

Far from it Dale. I thought it drank quite well but feel another year might be a good idea.
