1999 Lafoy et Gasse Côte-Rôtie Cuvée VV
The 99 fruit is deep yet maturing, which has a lot of potential for pleasure, but my enjoyment is marred by the streaks of brett flying through the wine. With air (and a bit of drunken imagination) I can sort of see the floral fruit trying to peak out, but my overall takeaway is one of disappointment.

1998 Jamet Côte-Rôtie
Starts off bright and olive porky but very quickly deepens with air and at the age of 18 is still a dark deep wine offset by the gentle Côte-Rôtie violets. I am not one with extensive Jamet experience, and I have only had the 98 once before, many years ago, which means I cannot hash out the minutiae of how this bottle showed compared to other vintages. But the dark suave fine-knit composure coupled with the brightness/roughness that I think is a vintage characteristic combined to produce a very fun time for me while drinking this wine!

Not familiar with Lafoy & Gasse

98 Jamet sounds nice. Makes me wish I'd bid 1 click higher on some mixed 98 CR last month

One of the first 'natural' biodynamic producers in the Northern Rhone so the wines can be risky but I've had good experiences with aged wines from them in the past. Not blockbusters but fresh full and elegant. Retired around 2004 and the vines went to Otheguy.

"Otheguy" sounds like a winery named by a mob boss.
