WTN: Ojai Syrah StolpmanVnyd '96...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Jul 27, 2016 9:03 am

Tried this last night w/ my leftover A16 pizza:
1. OjaiVnyd Syrah StolpmanVnyd/SantaBarbaraCnty (14%) 1996: Dark color/some cloudy w/ slight bricking; strong pungent/smokey/toasty/oak classic Ojai/smokey strong blackberry/blueberry/Syrah slight roasted/NRhonish/Cornas-like rather complex/Rhonish nose; lightly tart/tangy/metallic strong blackberry/blueberry/Syrah/bit peppery rather smokey/pungent/toasty/charred/oak some ersatz-Rhonish/roasted fairly complex flavor w/ light smooth bit drying tannins; very long/lingering strong blueberry/blackberry/Syrah strong smokey/toasty/oak/charred lightly tart/metallic rather complex finish w/ light smooth tannins; a classic mature/smokey Ojai Syrah.

1. This was from my abandoned orphan stash in the garage. Six...count'em...VI Turleys went down the drain before I hit this Ojai. I suspected it would be a survivor and, indeed, it was. Not as cold-climate & complex as the BienNacido '96 from a few weeks before, but still danged good stuff. One could only guess what a well-stored btl would be like.
