WTN: Dad's birthday party

by David from Switzerland » Fri Jul 22, 2016 11:23 am

19 July 2016

Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Pauillac 1994
PLL is my father's favourite Bordeaux, and the 1994 is drinking beautifully (ideally perhaps, as the fruit is open but youthful). Full ruby-red, beautiful gloss. Gorgeously feminine, perfumy-sweet nose and palate, blackcurrant syrup, lead pencil, soft wet earth. Complex, very, very long. Safely on a plateau of maturity, where it has been for a few years, and should remain for several more. dp 93

Taylor's Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port 1991
Deep, still almost opaque plummy ruby. Violet, grape, prune, not too sweet, remains youthful, nicely tannic, full-bodied, tiny bit hot with alcohol, very long. 24 hours later sweet, chocolatey, showing great density. dp 94+/95

Greetings from Switzerland, David.

Nice notes as usual. It's strange to realize that 1991 Ports are now 25 years old.
