WTN: A 1993 Burg singing at last

by Tim York » Fri Jul 15, 2016 5:13 am

I was commenting quite recently that I couldn't recall opening a 1993 which did not seem to be holding something back. Well here was one which was really expressive but still seeming quite youthful -

1993 Faiveley Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru (7/14/2016)
A lovely Nuits-Saint-Georges and perhaps my first '93 which was really singing. Colour showing tawny tints. Expressive nose with lively cherry tinged Pinot notes, some meat and and minerals. Robust medium bodied palate replaying the aromas from the nose with good depth, silky texture, classical shape, still quite youthful fruit, some secondary notes, lively acidity and enough tannins left for support of the long finish. Excellent.

Excellent!

Old school Faiveley takes a long time, but when it comes around it is often lovely. Apparently they have changed to a more approachable style in recent years.
