With dinner tonight.
Moulin Haut-Laroque Fronsac 2000
65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec. Still opaque plummy ruby-black. The third-to-last bottle of a case I once bought on subscription for my parents, well-stored ever since in their cellar. Great minerality, expression, complexity and length, of all the affordable Bordeaux we’ve had over the years, the “house style” we like best. Great depth, and not just for a wine in this price class. Flavourful tannin. Soft residual oak. Very long on the finish. Still safely on a plateau of maturity, my dad thinks its sweetness of residual fruit is a sign it’s still on its way up, whereas I’m convinced it’s soon going to be on its way down, as it’s increasingly leafier (nicely so, most likely due to its Cabernet Franc content) and less fruity. Poured myself a second and third glass, thoroughly enjoying it to the last drop. Love this wine, great, great QPR buy! Rating: 91-?
Greetings from Switzerland, David.
