Nicely done/interesting article today by Eric on the wines of MtEtna:
MtEtnaWines

I can't think of any other area in the World where you have to worry about the threat of a volcanic eruption.

I have a dream of Mt SaintHelena erupting, pouring out tons of lave flow, pouring into the NapaVlly, and taking out all the Cabernet vnyds, causing millions of $$'s in improvements.

Santorini is another wine growing area where there is a threat from volcanic activity.

Fortunately for the Sicilians, Mount Etna, although very active (it's been erupting continuously since the time of the ancient Greeks), is very placid as volcanoes go. It's one of the free-flowing Hawaiian-type volcanoes, as opposed to kaboom-types such as Mount St. Helens, Thera, or Vesuvius.
