WTN: 1916 Barbeito Madeira Malvazia

by Paul Winalski » Wed Jul 06, 2016 1:00 pm

We got together on July 1 with a retired Army special forces Lt. Colonel to commemorate the start of the Somme offensive. Col. Banker is a Madeira fanatic, and he opened a 1916 Barbeito Malvazia for us. This is an absolutely magnificent example of vintage Madeira at its best. Very complex dried fruit aromas with some roasted nuances. I could have spent the entire evening just sniffing the glass. The flavors are mouth-filling and still lively and fresh after 100 years. Everything is in perfect balance, and there is a touch of sweetness to remind you that this is a dessert wine. The finish goes on forever.

Triple Curly with an extra woo-woo-woo!!!
