WTN: Another Foucault with my sister

by David from Switzerland » Sat Jul 02, 2016 7:47 pm

With dinner tonight.

Foucault Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny Le Bourg 1996
One of the truly great bottles, opened for my sister, the last bottle from a case not bought on subscription/at release, but a few months later, ironically the case from which the second to last bottle a few weeks ago was the worst ever. Full ruby-black, minor watery rim, no orange whatsoever. Extremely minerally, complex, deep, expressive and long. True, it could be fruitier and tastes a bit leafy, with a touch of dried eucalyptus to other herbs such as rosemary and sage. Some cherry, beetroot, bitter chocolate and tobacco leaf. Tiny dustiness and dryness to the flavourful tannin. My sister, who I'd thought would be happier with a more modern, fruit-driven wine, absolutely loved it. dp 96

Greetings from Switzerland, David.
