Decanter: Domaine Serene (OR) beats some Burgundies

As if Domaine Serene wasn't already impossible to live with (their tasting room is the snobbiest I've ever been to, by far), now they go and get another prize.

Interesting to read at the end of the piece that the Evenstadts have recently purchased a chateau (with vineyards) in Burgundy.

These tastings whatever that Decanter put on should not be taken too seriously. Some of the so-called judges they sign up can be out of touch..me being polite :D .

So I understand. Wasn't trying to claim it was terribly meaningful--was just dismayed by how much mileage they'll make out of it nonetheless.

Serene’s Winery Hill Vineyard 2012, from the Dundee Hills area of Oregon, topped one grand cru and two premier cru Burgundy wines from the 2014 and 2013 vintages in the category for Pinot Noir over £15.

Wow, they beat 3 wines. Must be the best Pinot Noir in the whole world!!!

Some Burgundies indeed! The 3 Burgs:
Ch, de Santenay "Puillets" Mercurey 1er
Domaine de Vougeraie Clos Vougeot
Jaffelin "Les Duresses" Auxey-D 1er

Not exactly trophy wines (though the Auxey-Duresses might be nice)
Vougeraie make Cali PN in Burgundy. :)

This is a serious question, Bob, but when you say some of their judges are "out of touch," what do you mean?

In defense of Domaine Serene I have to say that the 2005 Domaine Serene Evenstad Reserve Pinot Noir was one of my top wines of 2015.

I am sure they make some very fine wines, but the implication that they are somehow superior to Burgundy is a farce.

Proper headline: Domaine Serene's top Pinot Noir beats middle of the road Red Burgundies
