2015 Tercero aberration - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County (6/28/2016)
In line with the name, this is a different sort of beast. Bright cherry and strawberry fruit with hints of wild, gamey and herbal elements make for an enticing aromatic profile. On the palate the cherry fruit dominates, especially when this is served somewhat chilled (as recommended by the winemaker). More of the complimentary flavors come out as it warms up. There's not much in the way of structure, so it acts like a rich rosé more than a traditional red wine, ideal for a warm but not hot summer evening. There's a bit of finishing creaminess on the palate which I like very much. In fact that aspect reminds me of Steve Edmunds' Rocks & Gravel, another blended red wine that sees zero oak treatment. Nicely done.
