2008 Trimbach Gewurztraminer Cuvée des Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre - France, Alsace (6/28/2016)
It is a rarity to run across an Alsatian Gewurztaminer that is even close to dry these days, such has been the curse of climate change. This wine is a happy exception, with only very subtle sweetness, and that more due to fruit than any significant residual sugar. The aromatics are classicially Gewurztaminer and the persistence on the palate is noteworthy. What really gets me is that this is balanced as a table wine, rather than as some thick, rich cocktail monstrosity. It's an outlier in modern Alsace, and for that I am truly grateful.
