WTN: 1999 Ridge Geyserville

1999 Ridge Geyserville, Sonoma County (14.8% abv)

A blend of Zinfandel (68%), Carignane (16%), Petite Sirah (16%).
Not decanted. Opened and sipped. Vanilla, coconut and toasty oak (more than I prefer) on the nose along with aromas that some describe as "Draper perfume". The palate follows the nose and some dark fruit emerges. The wine seems to improve and open with some air time. Creamy texture. The tannins are very much in evidence and dry out the finish.
The wine seems to be in a weird phase right now, so I let the rest of my stash sleep for a couple of years...I think (hope?) that will help matters.

I don't have any '99 Geyservilles in my spreadsheet. Hmmm.

Anyway, my experience with '99 Zins from the RRV is that they were very lush initially, then the tannins came forth. It's only in the last year or two that they've smoothed out again. With Ridge wines generally being slow developers, a couple more years probably won't hurt.
