2004 Domaine Laurens Marcillac (AOC Marcillac); 12.5% alc. (yes!); $11 US. I did a little digging and found that the grape variety used is the Fer Servadou.
Opened this up yesterday eve to accompany sausage and kraut. My first sip left me with the impression that anyone who enjoys eating raw rhubarb might find this a bit plump! Yes indeed, this is your quintissential food wine, acid and all! It was delightful with the meal, though my wife and son passed on it.
Tonight: Deep violet in color. I detected a bouquet of dark fruit and grassiness not unlike a lean Bordeaux. It has the mouthfeel of a cru Beaujolais with decent length. Acid and a bit of earth dominate, but the fruit is there if you search it out. Very good QPR. Will get more.
