The End Is Near...Blue Wine

by TomHill » Mon Jun 20, 2016 7:26 pm

As reported in the SFChron:
BlueWine

The reporter seems to be clueless that the 4'th wine is "orange". So "blue wine" would category #5. The blue color comes grape anthocyanin and indigio dye. Designed (obviously) for the market to milenials. From the Basque region of Spain.
Not yet available in the USofA but I will post the definitive TN when it crosses to our shores.

Innovative is right. I wouldn't be surprised if these sold well for the novelty aspect alone. But the true test comes with taste... let's see how long this lasts.

Sounds like something the younger Wagner family scion should pick up. Or maybe Fred Franzia?

Makes me think of a Tanith Lee novel, Drinking Sapphire Wine.
When I was a student, more years ago than I care to mention, there was a thing called Blue Moose, which was sparkling apple cider with blue colouring in it. I have no idea these years later what was used to colour it, but there was a slightly chemical tang to the drink. One would hope that natural, grape-derived colouring agents would avoid this artificial aftertaste. I had no idea indigo was edible (drinkable); who knew?
