WTN: 2015 Falkensteins

by Rahsaan » Fri Jun 17, 2016 5:38 pm

My first tastes of 2015 and my first tastes of Falkenstein, both of which come with high praise, and I was enamored on all counts.

Tonight with dinner we opened the 2015 Falkenstein Krettnacher Euchariusberg Kabinett and Spätlese, which were both so young so fresh and so ripe but so brisk and and so tangy.

The kabinett started out with an unbelievably delicate lacy feathery texture, which became more silken with air. But all the while it managed to blend full-on ripeness with full-on lightness. Who could complain about that!

Similar elements for the spätlese, although with more juicy weight. I look forward to a lot more of these.

That's a new name for me, Rahsaan. I don't even know in which region Krettnach is found. It sounds so delicious that I sought information and found this informative link from Lars Karlberg http://www.larscarlberg.com/producer/ho ... lkenstein/ . I sounds as if I should be looking out for them.

Lovely, I`m in!! Sounds like a very enterprising set-up a great piece of informative writing. I noted>

ome favorites: It won't be for everyone, but the 2012 Niedermenniger Herrenberg Riesling Kabinett trocken ♥ is taut and mineral, but such a delight. I drank an entire bottle at home last night (May 5). This was the first cask of the Herrenberg Kabinett trocken. The Webers have yet to bottle the second cask of this wine. The 2012 Krettnacher Altenberg Riesling Spätlese trocken ♥ can be stahlig, or steely, as well as rustic, and needs time to open up, but it's been my go-to wine from vintage to vintage. Other favorites this vintage include the very fine 2012 Niedermenniger Herrenberg Riesling Spätlese feinherb ♥♥ and the 2012 Niedermenniger Sonnenberg Riesling Spätlese feinherb ♥.

As you have seen it is the Saar and if you like Saar wines I would not hesitate to buy. These were my first two bottles but I will be going back for more, and not just 2015.

And like so many German vineyards, these were very famous in the past. (And perhaps in the future again)

I have had a few Falkenstein wines and liked them.

Too bad that Edgar Winter is not the winemaker.

Rahsaan, I'm glad you liked the two 2015s from Euchariusberg.

And from what I learned in another thread, glad to hear that you are working with them and contributing to their wines. I'm pretty excited to explore more.
