With dinner tonight, selection inspired by last Saturday’s.
Emmanuel Rouget Echézeaux 1996
Thanks to Ned. Full red-beet juice raspberry-ruby. Sweet and fruit-drenched, lower-acid and earthier than the Cros Parantoux. Long and fruity, with a lasting note of iron? Frozen raspberry with touches of red beet, blueberry, ginger, cinnamon and clove. Drinking splendidly, but will improve. dp 95(+?)
István Szepsy Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos Danczka Dülö 1993
Deep glossy amber, watery-yellow rim. Gorgeous caramelized white chocolate, sweet date, coffee, preserved lemon, bright but ripe tangerine-flavoured acidity, awesome focus and precision. Long and refreshing on the finish. Lovely viscosity. Great balance, no doubt ageworthy, if both more mature and more oxidized than the AE last Saturday, without that bottling's baby fat and upwards potential, but right now, providing extreme pleasure. These wines continue to surprise me, despite the fact that I had always been convinced by and touted them. dp 95+/96?
Greetings from Switzerland, David.
