Cool Red on a Hot Night

by James Roscoe » Sun Jun 05, 2016 3:14 pm

2015 Domaine De la Rochette "Fleur de Printemps" Loire Valley, France This wine was cooled to about 10 degrees Celsius if my hand thermometer was correct. This is a blend of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Gamay. It is the perfect red for ribs, chicken, hamburgers and hotdogs off the grill in the backyard on a muggy DC June evening. The palate is loaded with ripe tart cherries mingled with some black tea and hints of dark chocolate. This shows the great minerality of the Loire Valley. !3.99 at Wine Cellars in Annapolis, MD. I got two bottles. I am sure there will be more over the summer.

Four bucks for a wine that doesn't say "Trader Joes" on it?? I'm in on it. I like these pinot/gamay blends.

I could be wrong, but I'm guessing that !3.99 is a typo for $13.99.

I eat none of those foods but I agree that these pinot/gamay Loire blends can be very drinkable with all the right properties of juiciness and freshness that one wants for casual summer wine.

It was great with the salads and would be awesome with grilled zucchini or other veggies. This wine floats my boat on many levels, but alas it is $13.99 :(
