2012 Chateau Rocher Corbin Montagne Saint-Emilion Bordeaux, France Why doesn't ALL Merlot taste this good? I am looking at you California! This 90% Merlot 8% CS and 2% CF is from a single vineyard on the right bank. The plums, raspberries, currants and dried cherries are coupled with a nice healthy steak of lead pencil on the palate. The nose is equally complex and thrilling. Creamy with silky tannins and balanced acidity there is a real potential for some aging here, but it is good now at four years old. Bring on the rare lamb!. $24.99 at Wine Cellars in Annapolis.

I believe you would find this wine tolerable.

I love the distributor: Franck's Signature Wines.

That's why, for me, variety has not replaced place as the best indicator of a wine's character. BTW I have had good Merlot from Tuscany, Lamaione 1995 IIRC, and even from Languedoc, Domaine Ravanès, though the latter was close to jamminess.
