WTN: Riesling and Chablis

Betsy continued her exploration of the Ottolenghi books with a soba/eggplant/tofu/mango salad, as well as cucumbers with sesame dressing. I opened the 2012 Peter Lauer “Unterstenberg “Fass 12” Riesling. Citrus, red fruits, herbs. Tangy and long, with just a playful hint of sugar . Very good wine, with strong minerally finish. though it didn’t play well with the eggplant and mango. I wish I had picked up all of these from closeout bin ($20) at Zachys. B+/A-

Tuesday was a salad of grilled squid, king trumpets, and lemon with the 2014 Barat “Vaillons” Chablis 1er. Again, not matching brilliance (I wish I had the Lauer for this). Apple, lemon zest, with a nice saline/seashell note on finish. Nothing profound, but typical and tasting Chablis. B/B+

Wineless Wednesday. :(

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
