WTN: Unti Rosé

by Patchen Markell » Fri May 06, 2016 8:54 pm

Finally in the 70s in Chicago, so we reached for our first Unti Vineyards 2015 Dry Creek Valley Rosé, 55% Grenache, 45% Mourvèdre, 13.5% ABV, $28.00. Haven't had an Unti Rosé for several years, and this is, hands down, the best one I can remember. Pale salmon, dry, crisp, perfect balance between restrained cherry fruit and a bouquet of savory herbs, not a trace of alcoholic heat to be found, walks a really nice line between intensity and delicacy. Very glad to have three more of these.
cheers, Patchen

$28.00? No wonder they don't want to sell any grapes!

(Confronted with the tiny but real implication of his own enthusiasms in the messy California viticultural economy, Patchen stares at his shoes silently)
cheers, Patchen

It's okay; I'm working on a new plan, for which I have high hopes!

Does it involve a rubber tree plant?

As long as it doesn't involve a ram and a dam. (Talk about changing the viticultural landscape.)

Glad to hear you've got something new in the works, Steve!
cheers, Patchen
