Donkey and Goat Carrignan 2014

by Brian K Miller » Fri May 06, 2016 1:40 pm

Mendocino County (Testa Vineyard). Run through a double decant and Vinturi (one of Alan's favorite toys) While certainly having the D&G acid, like the other 2014 D&G wines I have cracked open (probably far too soon) this showed some nice fruit. Oak is just there. Pomegranite, dark cherry, and some nice herbal/rustic Carrignan character was appealing. Only negative is that it did become sweeter and more pomegranate-y at the end.

Re: Donkey and Goat Carrignan 2014-A Week Later!

OK. This was pretty amazing. Apparently, Alan recorked and put in a deep cooler this wine from last Thursday. And you know what, while there were some oxidative notes (I am pretty sensitive to that), the wine was more than drinkable. A week later. No argon, no freezer. Just corked and cooled. If anything, I liked the wine more after it had lost some of its "pomegranate" sweetness.
