WTN: Cheap Burgundy-ness

by Jenise » Thu May 05, 2016 2:45 pm

Doing some palate calibration with cheap stuff from France:

2014 Moulin de Gassac Pinot Noir in de Pays de l'Hérault, Languedoc
Tart cranberry fruit and earthy; improves drastically with time in the glass and food. Rewards aeration.

2013 Domaine Moutard-Diligent Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay
Best of the lot. Good fruit complimented by perfect acidity. Flinty with yellow fruit and green stemmy notes, which is not to imply underripeness. Really good for 15 bucks.

2013 Domaine Moutard-Diligent Bourgogne Pinot Noir
Slightly cloudy. Has that weird cooked flavor of strawberry jam with the spicey sweetness of bug spray that suggests, to my palate, heat damage.

2013 Marcel Giraudon Bourgogne-Chitry Pinot Noir
Best of the pinots. Nice pinot flavors with solid core and raspberry fruit on the finish. Very decent everyday drinker.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
