WTN: Truchot...that is all

by David M. Bueker » Tue Apr 26, 2016 3:31 pm

2005 Domaine Truchot-Martin Morey St. Denis Vieilles Vignes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis (4/23/2016)
Early maturity here, making it one of the few 2005s that is truly drinking well. As usual this is all about the perfume, with bright fruit married to scintillating spice and a floral element that is drop dead gorgeous. It's haunting and yet palpably tactile all at the same time. The palate impression is of supreme elegance, with the spice and red fruit joined by a subtle worn leather notes, but I keep going back to just inhale. Breathe deep...

We spent some time discussing where the same experience can be had in Burgundy now that Jacky Truchot has retired, and the answer was really nowhere. There are producers where some of the elements are there, but never the total package.

As supplies dwindle and prices soar, I've resigned myself to knowledge I'll likely taste few (if any) more Truchots. :(
