Materra Winery, on Big Ranch Road near Oak Knoll.
Very simple, austere "agricultural" buildings, but lovely inside spaces.
The wines were, to be honest, quite a surprise. Definitely on the lighter, savory, high acid side. I loved the Sauvignon Blanc, and the Viognier completely avoided being heavy or tiring! Lovely wine, actually. The reds shared the emphasis on brighter flavors. Even the Howell Mountain Cabernet was elegant more than massive. Their one blend, Petit Verdot and Malbec based, was deep purple in color and "tasted purple" to me in a good way (RIP Prince)
A nice discovery. Mike Trujillo shares winemaking duties, and I prefer this Sauvignon Blanc to the Sequoia Grove version.
