WTN: Ryme RibollaGialla '13...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sat Apr 16, 2016 8:44 am

Tried this last night after a fail on my Alsace PinotBlanc:
1. Ryme RibollaGialla VareVnyd/NapaVlly (13.1%; 6 mo. of maceration; 18 mo. in barrel; www.RymeCellars.com) Geyserville 2013: Deep golden color; some phenolic/resiny/cidery some spicy/peppery/RG/ripe mango/fennel light earthy quite complex nose; some tart/tangy fairly phenolic/resiny some mango/apple/spicy/fennel bit RG/peppery slight mineral/chalky complex flavor w/ light tangy tannins; very long some tart/tangy/austere some phenolic/resiny rather mango/fennel/appley/chalky some peppery/RG finish w/ light lean tannins; very nice balance between phenolic character & fresh RG fruit. $42.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. When I looked at the color of this on first pour, I was prepared for a highly phenolic/austere RG. But such was not the case...it had a very nice balance to it. With the cream of aspargras soup & Locale pizza bones croutons, this wine really sung and cut thru the richness like a chain saw thru butter. After a big fail by a bland/off-dry Alsatian PinotBlanc.

But wow, $42 is a lot of scratch for Ribolla.

Which Pinot Blanc was it? There are really only a few good ones.

$42 includes $4 shipping. So $38.00, which is not too out-of-line w/ other Calif Ribollas.
And cheaper than most skin-contact Ribollas from Friuli & Slovenia.

Alsace producer was one I'd never had before. Will look it up at home later.

I don't think I have ever had a Ribolla worth more than $20 from anywhere.
