WTN: Hard as nails

2005 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges (4/15/2016)
From 375ml, and still closed in and tannic. I should have expected this from old school Gouges.

This has prompted me to check what I have from Gouges and I find 3x Les St.Georges '99 and 4x Les Pruliers '02. The CT reviews, FWIW, seem to indicate that both, particularly the former, are a long way from gracious drinking.

David, your '05 sounds like the basic NSG bottling which should be more forward than a 1er cru and in 350ml, to boot.

So, all this is leading me to wonder what to do with these bottles, which appear to be designed for consumption by the next generation. Auction?

I'm a Gouges fan but they certainly demand patience.

I like Gouges as well, and in fact this wine showed better a few years ago, perhaps it only recently shut down.

2002 is a more gracious vintage. Those bottles would likely reward drinking sooner than the '99s.

Gouges? "Nails?"
