2014 Donkey and Goat Pinot Noir (and Easton!)

by Brian K Miller » Wed Apr 06, 2016 10:38 am

After his long illness, our local (Solano/Yolo/Sacramento) wine scene lost a paragon-the owner of Vini Wine Bar in Davis this week. :(
He was truly a unique and quirky man...a fantastic host and so much fun to talk with. I knew him only through Vini, but it was still a shocking text yesterday morning.

We had a bit of an informal wake/remembrance at Vini last night. The 2014 Donkey and Goat Helluva Vineyard (Anderson Valley) Pinot Noir was surprisingly approachable for D&G at such a young age. Lovely Anderson Valley pomegranate. Acids definitely there, but not in your face. Jeff taught me to appreciate Pinot Noir, and I know he would have enjoyed this one.

Also: the 2012 Easton Terre Rouge Mouvedre from the Foothills showed really nicely. earthy, slightly funky plum and cherry fruit. Alcohol and acids in refreshing balance. I may pick up a bottle or two of this one.
